Gas cookers, hobs, fires and pipework
Gas work must, by law, be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Ours connect and commission gas appliances, run and alter gas pipework for kitchens and renovations, and carry out landlord gas safety checks.

If you smell gas, leave the property, do not operate electrical switches or use flames, and phone the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, 24 hours a day.
ESCO Plumbing™ does not provide gas leak or gas emergency services. Once the emergency service has made the supply safe, we can carry out any repair or replacement work that is needed.
Gas appliance installation
We install, connect, disconnect and replace domestic gas appliances, and test them for safe operation before we leave:
- Gas cookers and range cookers, with a bayonet connection and stability bracket where required
- Gas hobs, hard-piped into new kitchens
- Gas fires, including flue and ventilation checks, and safe removal of old fires and back boilers
- Boilers: see boiler installation and servicing
Every installation is tightness tested and the appliance is checked for correct gas pressure, safe combustion and adequate ventilation. Where an appliance cannot be made safe, we explain why and follow the industry unsafe situations procedure, which is there to protect you.
Gas pipework
New kitchens, extensions and renovations often mean moving or extending the gas supply. We install new gas pipework, relocate existing pipes and gas points, cap off redundant supplies, and test the installation before and after the work. If the meter needs to be moved, that is arranged through your gas supplier; we can advise on what to ask for.
Before you buy an appliance
Send us the model of the cooker, hob or fire you are considering and a photo of where it will go. We will confirm it can be installed there safely, and point out ventilation or flue requirements before you spend money.

Can my kitchen fitter connect the gas hob?
Only if they are Gas Safe registered for that type of work. It is illegal for anyone else to work on gas fittings. You can ask to see an engineer's Gas Safe ID card and check the categories they are qualified for.
Should I have a carbon monoxide alarm?
Yes. Any room with a fuel-burning appliance should have an audible carbon monoxide alarm that meets British Standard EN 50291. In Scotland, every home must have one where there is a fixed fuel-burning appliance (other than a cooker) or a flue. Test it regularly.
Do you remove old gas fires and back boilers?
Yes. We disconnect the appliance, cap the gas supply safely and can then fit replacement heating, often a combi boiler and radiators.
